Wilson Aquatic Center Doggie Dip

Wilson Aquatic Center

The Wilson Aquatic Center is wrapping up the summer with a Doggie Dip on Saturday, August 29th from 10:00 a.m. to noon. Dogs can enjoy a morning of swimming and splashing for $5 per dog. All dogs must be up to date on vaccinations and leashed, and puppies under six months of age are not permitted. Donations are also welcome.

Northwest Bank Community Shred Day

Northwest Bank will host a Community Shred Day in Shenandoah. Participants may bring up to three boxes of paper documents per person for shredding. Paper documents only; no PC equipment or hard drives. Free-will donations will benefit the Shenandoah Food Pantry. Nonperishable food items and monetary donations will also be accepted.

Hunter Education Course - Day 1 of 2

A Hunter Education Course will be held in Shenandoah. The course covers firearm safety, hunter ethics and responsibility, conservation and wildlife management, and field safety. Memorial Service for Willis David Hoover, Shenandoah Class of 1964, on Sunday, August 30 from 2:00–4:00 pm under the Depot tent. Friends, classmates and community members are invited to gather in remembrance of the singer-songwriter, author and journalist. The memorial will include an open mic for sharing music, memories and stories.

Family Doubles Night - Tennis

Shenandoah Tennis Association Family Doubles Night will be held Tuesday, August 18 at 6:00 pm at Sportsman’s Park. Teams must consist of family members, with at least one player familiar with doubles rules. Divisions will be determined based on participation, and awards will be given to the top three teams in each division. A junior short-court division using youth tennis balls will be created if junior players participate. Cost is $10 per team. To enter, contact Coach Daoust at 712-249-6685.

The Shenandoah Public Library’s Fantasy Book Club will meet Wednesday, August 19 at 4:30 pm to discuss Blood Over Bright Haven by M.L. Wang. This monthly book club, hosted by Alex Pickens and Bevin Anderzhon, is open to science fiction and fantasy readers. Participants should read the book prior to the meeting. Copies are available to check out at the library’s front desk.

New Beginnings Vacation Bible School

New Beginnings Church is inviting area children to kick off summer with Beach Break, two special evenings of games, worship, snacks, and fun on June 3 and June 10 at 6:45 PM. Open to children in preschool through 6th grade, Beach Break serves as a fun lead-up to the church's Surf's Up VBS program. Weekly VBS sessions will begin in mid-June and continue throughout the summer on Wednesday evenings. Families are encouraged to view the flyer for registration information and learn more about this exciting summer opportunity for kids.
